In the last 12 years, at my previous employer, I lived out of my inbox. It was a constant flow of emails, phone calls and WhatsApp messages. I sat on a chair for 8 hours a day, doing computer things and Teams meetings. The only movement I got, was getting coffee.
On december 1st I started my new job as a team lead at a photo printing company. I don’t have a computer, I don’t have a phone, and (wait for it…), I don’t even have a company email address!
It’s so freeing to just be doing stuff. Of course I was doing things in my previous job, but it feels like I am doing so much more at my new job. I’m handling products, moving things around, walking around. It’s amazing.
It’s so satisfying if at the end of the day all products have shipped and all the printers are empty. Much more so then having answered 50 emails.
When I get home, I feel tired. Tired in a good way. I feel like I did something. It’s a feeling I have not had in a long time.
